Business Analysis Wave
So Who Does What Anyway? Sorting out Business Analysis and Project Management 8:45 - 10:00 David Hansen, Babbage Simmel
Session Level: All levels (100–Beginner; 200–Intermediate; 300–Advanced; 400–Expert)
There seems to be a great deal of confusion swirling around the technical community concerning the roles and relationships between the Business Analyst and the Project Manager. This session presents a model of their relationships and complimentarity that is both theoretically and practically sound. Hansen will demonstrate how the Business Analysis and Project Management teams collaborate to produce efficient and effective results by using their own and others' professional and personal strengths.
Enterprise Analysis: Finding the Heart and Head of the Organization
10:15 - 11:30 David Hansen, Babbage Simmel
Session Level: 200–Intermediate - 400–Expert
A good problem-finder can keep a hundred problem-solvers busy and problem-solvers without good problem-finding can waste a lot of resources solving the wrong problems. In this session, we take a look at “value-mapping”, which allows us to triangulate between the head, the heart and the hands of the organization, in order to stay centered on our goals and keep our eyes on the prize.
Negotiating For Success
2:00 - 3:15
Pat Schullo, New Horizons of Minnesota
Session Level: 100–Beginner
We all want to get what we want and need. The trick is, how do we make each situation a “win-win” for all people involved? Negotiation is the process we use to satisfy our needs when someone else may control what we want. A successful negotiation should produce a wise agreement for both parties. It should produce an efficient outcome and should improve or at least not damage the relationship between the parties. There are both hard and soft negotiating skills and we will look at both. We will also look at ways to prepare yourself for the negotiating process.
Getting to Requirements: Developing New Elicitation Methods
3:30 - 4:45 David Hansen, Babbage Simmel
Session Level: 200–Intermediate - 400–Expert
How do we break out of the limited list of elicitation techniques presented in the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge? How do we systematically develop new elicitation techniques to widen our elicitation bandwidth? How do we identify characteristics in the stakeholder groups that help us adapt elicitation techniques to their needs? These are some of the questions that Hansen takes on in this session.
