30 Days of MindSurf!

According to Australian legend*, one must wear a special garment representing a monumental event in their life for 30 days leading up to the event. Brian Lockwood, native Australian and MindSurf presenter, has chosen to share this tradition with us. For 30 days, starting September 29th, Brian will be sporting a coral-colored MindSurf shirt. Follow his journey through this photo blog. Don't worry..he WILL be washing it!

  • Day 25 - Starting the day off right... (in the same shirt)

Today as every day I start off my day by lifting with a co worker.  We venture to LifeTime fitness about 5:45am each morning and start the day off right.  Now this month is extra exciting because I get to lift in my MindSurf shirt.  (see picture).

I have also decided that for the remaining couple of days I am going to post some Silverlight tips and tricks for those that are interested in understanding what Silverlight is and how it is going to better the online world in which we live.  As a friend would say... how it helps us in RL.  (Real Life).

  • Day 17 - WebCams Rock

Day 17 and I'm at New Horizons of Minnesota teaching the 4995 Microsoft .NET Framework using Visual Studio 2005 official Microsoft Curriculum.  The students are currently working on a lab so I figured it was only appropriate to establish what day it was in my adventure.  A few stains have appeared over the recent days and although the "stain remover" worked temporarily, Coral could probably do with a wash.

I know I know... the radical affects on my webcam are pretty sweet...

  • Day 12 - Size Matters

So a good friend, colleague and MindSurf presenter Jon Buck and I are looking to do battle with our blogs.  Yes quantity and size do matter.

Today's quality, not to be missed, blog notes include:

    1. Finalizing some details for Silverlight 2.0 Courseware
    2. Drinking 1 mountain due
    3. Drinking 1 diet coke
    4. Eating out at the (spelling) Seschuwan Star
    5. Oh and battling with my co worker for the title of
"Who has the most radically bodaciously awesome blog of the century"

I'm also getting ready to put together the sweet MindSurf presentation for my session.  I definitely want it to be radical.  This morning my thoughts started with how much it would cost to hire a light show for the beginning of my presentation.  That idea was quickly shut down because of cost.  I'm leaning towards Snickers bars for everyone?  Something I might actually be able to afford.

  • Day 7 - So Fresh, So Clean...

    G'morning everyone,

So Friday I was sitting in my lunch staff meeting and discussing the "Learn Win Fun" everyone was having and then suddenly... SPLASH!!! my hot minestrone soup went flowing down onto my shirt and pants.  Needless to say I smelt pretty awesome by 6:30PM when I was in the mentored learning lab.

Today I decided to wash my shirt. :-)  Let us start another week of joy.

  • Day 5 - Brian Lockwood presents... Silverlight 2 Courseware

Wow.  After months of research and development, roughly five hundred hours, I have completed the Silverlight 2 courseware.  This is great since Silverlight 2 is the most talked about, most capable and most exciting technology ANYONE has seen in years.

I have the opportunity to present a session at MindSurf that talks about this very topic.  Come in and say G'day at MindSurf and experience all the goodness that is Silverlight 2.

  • Day 4 - It's in the name

So I have stewed on the name for a while now (3 days to be exact) and I have come up with the name of my shirt.  It is of coral color so I have officially named it... wait for it... (com'on at least pretend you can't see the words below)... wait for it...

    I introduce you too...

    CORAL

In the spirit of things I've thought of some advantages of Coral.

    1. Habitat: Coral reefs act as fish attracting devices
    2. Aesthetic Value: (The Coral) Great Barrier Reef can be seen from space
    3. Construction Industry: Coral aggregate is used to reinforce concrete
    4. Pharmaceutical Compounds: Coral has Protaglandin which is an anti cancer drug
    5. Economic Benefits: Coral can be used for jewellery and household decorations
    6. Defense: Coral reduces erosion
    7. Quality of air: Coral polyps control the amount of carbon dioxide

The radical thing about this game is that now substitute the word "Coral" with "MindSurf" and consider the sentence to be relative to your business.

    Cheers!

  • Day 3 - Same?

Yes here I am again.  Day 3 on my challenge, which is more like a washing vacation, and I'm loving every minute of it.  You may look at the images above in the gallery and ask yourself, it looks like he's wearing the same pants as well?  You are correct.  I figured that in the spirit of things I might try for the same pants for a day or two as well.

  • Day 2 - Castaway

    Brian Lockwood MindSurf Cast Away

Yes that is how I'm feeling this morning.  Although in a very good way.  I love the assignment I have for this week and I truly believe I've spent an entire day surfing and I'm chilling out on my own private island.

This week the shirt (which I hope to give a name too soon. Almost like Wilson from Castaway) and I are hanging ten in the mentored learning lab at New Horizons of Minnesota.

You a probably thinking "radical dude, that is some sweet photoshop'n skillz" but luckily for everyone at MindSurf we have adobe and other talented presenters showing us the fantastic ways to use Photoshop CS4.

  • Day 1 - The excitement begins!

So here I am.  Day 1 of my 30 day challenge.  I finally hacked my way into the marketing department blog tool so now I have the "power" <in my best scottish voice evah>.

What is MindSurf?  Hopefully by now you have had the opportunity to "surf" <hehe> your way through the site to see there are many radical events (yes, my surf lingo is coming back to me) at the MindSurf event in Edina, MN on October 28th.  You should be very excited to hear that there is a presenter that is going to be rocking out with the newest technology, Microsoft Silverlight 2, in the morning session.  I also hear this presenter in particular is going to be wearing the same shirt for 30 days prior to the event.  And finally, I also hear his wife is not too pumped about the 30 days because she knows the "washing clothes" track record of the presenter.

Great news!  You can track the shirt progress and probably note which fast food restaurant I ate at during that day.  Please join me in this adventure.  If you see me around with a bright (very bright) coral colored shirt, please hold your breath and come say hi.

*Looking for more information about this legend? So are we! We believe that Brian convienently developed this mysterious legend to make his life easier. No more time wasted picking out attire on a daily basis and what a great excuse to wear coral! Let's just hope he limits it to 30 days...
