Students Benefit from Extended ITIL v3 Foundation Bridge Course
Minneapolis, MN – July 1, 2008 – New Horizons of Minnesota formally announced today that their ITIL v3 Foundation Bridge course is shifting to a two-day approach. This decision came in response to student, customer and partner feedback received over the past 12 months on the one-day class built upon APMG’s accredited ITIL v3 Foundation Bridge course syllabus.
The bulk of the accredited one-day course covers the Foundational differences between ITIL v2 and ITIL v3 and concludes with an ITIL v3 Foundation Bridge certification exam. New Horizons of Minnesota used education and testing trends along with feedback and exam results to analyze the effectiveness of the one-day approach. The majority of students agreed that additional time spent in the classroom was needed. Wanting to create an ITIL v3 Foundation Bridge solution as successful as their full three-day ITIL v3 Foundation solution, New Horizons of Minnesota made adjustments and created the two-day approach.
Their findings revealed that extending the length of the course greatly improved students’ exam results. Although it is possible to cover all of the new ITIL v3 Foundation Bridge material in a day, an immediate test afterward did not allow enough time for an adult learner to properly digest the information and apply that knowledge to an exam. With the two-day approach, students also noted they had less adult exam anxiety because they had a night to study before taking the exam.
It was also found that although the students attending an ITIL v3 Foundation Bridge course are ITIL v2 Foundation certified, a refresh of the main ITIL v2 Foundation concepts is necessary. Whether a recent ITIL v2 Foundation certified person or someone who obtained certification years ago, the review of the ITIL v2 Foundation concepts was noted by students as appreciated and helpful for both learning and the exam. “It was great to see the care and thoughtfulness our educators, ITIL Subject Matter Experts and Training Advisors took in working together with their customers and partners to create an excellent student experience with this class,” said Phil Hinderaker, owner of New Horizons of Minnesota. “The easy thing to do would have been to follow competitive status quo or dump the solution altogether. Due to education investments made in previous versions of ITIL by companies around the world, a better choice needed to be offered to show value and return on investment for those seeking the new best practices and certification the latest version of ITIL has to offer. Customers agree.”
